Epic journey around the North Sea Cycle Route

This week Graham Wilson from Ivybridge in South Devon, embarks on an epic journey around the North Sea Cycle Route to raise money for a local wildlife charity.

Graham has been in training and fundraising for the past nine months and this week got a warm send off from staff and volunteers from the Devon Wildlife Trust, the charity he has chosen to support for his latest cycling challenge.

Graham's cycle challenge is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest cycle route in the World. It circumnavigates the North Sea coastline visiting numerous wild places along the way. His journey begins on 24 April from Harwich.

Graham said: "I am setting off on Saturday to cycle to Norway and back, a distance of 6,000km. This is my biggest cycling adventure yet. I am fund raising for the Devon Wildlife Trust because I believe that protection of wildlife is most deserving in the current climate for safeguarding our planet. Not only do most of us appreciate the wild places we see and visit, a thriving wildlife is also essential for the very wellbeing of our food chain. I have seen the Trust's work and they do a fantastic job with their management and skill caring for wildlife whether in woodlands, ancient grasslands, rivers or the sea. The Wildlife Trusts is the largest national organisation caring for wildlife so supporting Devon is part of the national effort."

Graham is the first of what the charity hopes will be many intrepid adventurers to help raise money for its conservation work around the county.

Cat Loudwill, Corporate and Community Relations Officer from Devon Wildlife Trust, said: 'Graham has done a fantastic job and has already raised thousands of pounds as part of this challenge and we hope even more people will support him as he embarks this week. This is the biggest challenge anyone has ever done for us and we decided we would give him a special send off at our offices here at Cricklepit Mill to give him the boost he will need on those long lonely roads ahead.'
