Cromarty Primary School pupil wins North Sea Cycle Route poster competition

Pupils at primary schools along the North Sea Cycle Route were invited to take part in a ‘design a poster’ competition organised by the Scottish North Sea Cycle Route project working group. Sharon Rice-Jones, the competition co-ordinator, said "the Dandy Comic agreed to promote the North Sea Cycle Route in an issue of their comic and to act as judges for the competition. The level of the entries was very high and all schools should be applauded for their efforts".

Sarah Thomas from Cromarty Primary School received the top prize at a ceremony held at Aberdeen on Saturday 23rd June for the official celebration of the opening of the North Sea Cycle Route. Sarah received a miniature bronze Millennium Milepost, a t-shirt with her poster design, a certificate for a guided rock pool ramble from the Marine Conservation Society, two years membership to the Dandy Fan Club and £500 prize money for the school.

Other children from Cromarty Primary School who attended the event in Aberdeen were Amy Sampays, Marsalli Hogg, Hollie Shewan and her young brother Rhys.

Councillor Sandy Mackenzie, Chairman of Highland Cycle Forum, said " the competition involved children from many schools along the route and it has helped to raise the profile of the North Sea Cycle Route among the future generation of cyclists".
